A year of records;

The 2010 hurricane season started out slow but has certainly heated up in the past weeks. With this surge of activity came a flurry of records, here they are.

Karl, the southernmost major hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico.

Hurricane Julia, easternmost major hurricane seen on the left side of this picture. This picture also marks the second time in recorded history there were 2 category 4 hurricanes in the Atlantic at once.

Hurricane Igor, The 3rd largest Hurricane ever recorded.

Earl, the northernmost major hurricane.

92L, Infrared (colored), 4:00 PM EST. 92L has been organizing slowly and will likely be classified a tropical depression some time tonight. The NHC gives 92L a 60% of developing into Tropical Storm Julia. 92L’s current track will take it just south of Jamaica a couple days from now and in a week it looks as if it will make landfall somewhere on the Yucatan peninsula.
